Perfectionism
I used to wash & blow dry my hair BEFORE my hairdressers appointment. I wanted them to think I was a good person who had good (and squeaky clean!) hair.
I dreaded the moment my dentist asked how regularly I flossed. I didn't want to admit it wasn't every single night. I wanted them to think I was a good person who took good care of her teeth.
I almost delayed having my annual wellbeing checkup at the end of last year. I knew I had put on weight during lockdown (covid kilos are real people) and that my cholesterol & blood sugar levels would have tracked in the 'wrong' direction. I didn't want to see my doctor's face register my 'failings'. So ironically, because I was embarrassed about not being 'good' or perfect with my health, I almost delayed booking an appointment that would support me to get back on track with it.
You see, being a 'good girl', perfectionist & people pleaser is a bit of a triple whammy when it comes to uplevelling your life. Don't ask me how I know this ;)
If you're holding onto being 'good' & perfect in this moment, you have nowhere else to go.
There's no room for growth or change.
Life is messy. We are messy. What we often forget is that our massive breakthroughs, uplevels & next level lives can only be born out of the mess.
If it wasn't for the mess, we wouldn't seek clarity. If it wasn't for the mess, we wouldn't ask ourselves the big questions. If it wasn't for the mess, we wouldn't know (like really KNOW in our bones) what we value in this life & what it is we are being called to build.
When you call in my support as your coach, please know that I welcome your messy, imperfect, glorious self. You don't need to feel like you've got it all together. Who's got it all together anyway? NO-ONE.
Accepting our imperfection is liberating. It allows us to reach for playing bigger because it gives us room to move. Our mess is the perfect playground for discovering our next big uplevel.
