When You’ve Worked Hard to Get Here
I knew life didn't feel good but I resisted getting support. I was afraid that talking about it would open a can of worms.
I was just about keeping it together. It was a grinding schedule of getting up at the crack of dawn to get myself ready and get the kids up and ready for their early morning childcare drop off before commuting to a job that just didn't feel like me.
I was doing all the right things to create career growth, and it was working, but deep down what I really craved was soul growth.
I craved a life that felt aligned with who I really was deep down. I devoured inspiring books on people who had done amazing things with their lives. Their stories of aliveness and meaning spoke to me and lifted me temporarily. But they felt like just that. Stories. The stuff of fiction.
Meanwhile, back in the real world, everyone around me was doing the same thing as me. They were working their way up the career ladder in huge corporations that looked magnificent on their CV's. They were devoted to their kids and putting every ounce of non-work energy into their families and keeping their households running. They were working their way up the housing and car ladders with each new promotion. We were all tired but we knew how lucky we were. Why would I want to mess with that?
The thing is, you don't have to mess with that (unless you want to!). Living an abundant life doesn't have to mean forsaking everything you've worked so hard to build. For a long time, my life didn't look any different on the outside. I still had an accounting job, lived in the same house, had the same friends, ran the kids around to their activities. Actually, that's what my life looks like now too, minus the accounting job and plus my life coaching business (see, I still think like an accountant sometimes!).
But on the inside, my life felt SO different. I created more time, energy and money to do things for me. I felt more connected than ever to my family. I felt more intentional and productive at work. I started making baby steps towards a career change. I felt like I had stepped out of groundhog day and come ALIVE. And it all started with a 1 hour zoom call each fortnight with my coach.
You don't have to change everything. The smallest of changes can create massive shifts in the way you feel about your life.
