Courage Over Conformity
"The opposite of courage is not cowardice, it is conformity."
What does this quote by Jim Hightower bring up for you?
For me, it has been the bridge over which I have walked from being a chronic people pleaser and 'good girl' to being a leader.
People pleasing is steeped in conformity. It's a way of moulding ourselves to fit into a box in the hopes that we will be more likeable or acceptable to others. It can stop us from doing something different, something edgy, something new, something that makes our soul sing. And when one person dims their own light or dilutes their own greatness in order to conform, we all lose.
All the inventions, innovations and creations of human history, all the social and environmental movements that have brought about enormous change....none of those would have happened if the people involved had believed in conformity.
On a micro level, your life cannot change if you choose conformity over courage.
It takes courage to forge your own path, to do the things that feel right and true for you, especially when you don't have an example to follow and you're just making it up as you go.
But isn't that the path of the leader? And self leadership is where it all starts.
So what is the next tiny decision you will make in your life to choose courage over conformity?
